The U.15 Carlow Colts Talent Academy Football Squad travelled to Newry in Co Down on Saturday 20th June to take on Down Under

15 team.

On an ideal day for football both teams gave an outstanding display of skill, fitness and enthusiasm.

Carlow were first on the score board with a fine point from play by Cathal O’Neill. It was nip and tuc for the first quarter after that, with Down kicking some long range points while

Carlow worked the ball well to get some hard won frees which were converted by Conor Doyle. With some position changes Carlow started to gain the upper hand and went in at the break 1-4 to 1-6.

Carlow came out fired up and 2 goals from Padraig Hynes (I penalty) put us in front, a lead which we never gave up. The Carlow defence were resolute in their work ethic and gave the midfielders and forwards a great platform to launch some great attacks and were unfortunate not to finish with a bigger winning margin, thanks to some brilliant saves by the Down keeper. This was a superb effort and bodes well for the future.
