Aine Kinsella- Carlow Ladies Football Captain

"The first Carlow womens football club team to land a provincial title"
It has been a champagne year for St.Forcherns Ladies Gaelic Football club. The girls from Fenagh Ballinkillen/Newtown have made history. The five in a row has been achieved. Five Carlow senior women's football championships on the trot and then the women began to dream. The Leinster Women's club title has eluded Carlow teams since the competition began .With three minutes remaining in the leinster Club Championship first round it seemed that the dismal record of Carlow champions would continue; A last gasp penalty forced extra time with the Westmeath Champions Milltown. In the twenty minutes of extra time the Saints learned a lot about themselves and beat the Midlanders. The prize for a first round victory an ominous trip to the capital to play metropolitan champions Balinteer St.Johns (trained by Joe McNally's little sister Angie). Down a half a dozen points at half time it really looked like curtains. An amazing second half, more penalty precision form the talented Eilish Meaney and Forcherns had done the unthinkable– beaten the Dubs by six points in their own back yard. At first glance a Leinster semi-final date with the Kilkenny Champions looked easier than the two previous rounds. This Railyard team featured ten of the cat's side which just a month earlier had been crowned All- Ireland Junior champions; not easy. The semifinal then was something special, played under lights at an electric pace. The Carlow girls were committed, creative and crucially hit three goals to run our four points winners. The Leinster final was a special day for St Forcherns; the opposition the reigning All Ireland Club Junior Champions Eadestown from Kildare. The bitter memories of a Provincial final defeat to then Lilywhite champions Sarsfields (trained by Dermot Early) four years earlier were erased. The determination of two goal heroine Mairead Hogan, the resolve of Fulback Aine Kinsella, the bravery of goal keeper Jenny O'Neill and the collective determination of the entire St Forcherns team delivered the goods. St. Forcherns the Champions of Leinster by the slightest of margins, the first Carlow womens football club team to land a provincial title".
