True to form Old Leighlin and Rathvilly topped their groups and automatically qualified by the shortest route - straight into the semi finals.
Palatine swept all before them in Group B until the final round when they met a Rathvilly team that recovered well from a very bad start to clinch the group with an impressive second half performance.
‘Surprise' package - (again) were O Hanrahans who continue to defy the rules of preparation (maybe there's a message in there for the rest of us). Shy on training they pushed Rathvilly all the way in their game and should have got a draw on the day. It's fair to say Group A was not as competitive as Group B and O Hanrahans took full advantage to deservedly get through.
Group B went down to the wire, so much so that the last round of fixtures had to be arranged to ensure results in other games could not influence performances of teams.
The table doesn't lie and Old Leighlin showed real desire to retain their crown with impressive performances in all their games.
Tinryland continue to make progress and in qualifying for the quarter finals have shown they can match any team in the county on their day. Beaten league finalists they have momentum coming into the knock outs stage.
Eire Og were staring at elimination in the final game v Kilbride following an abject performance in the previous round, they got their win and are now through to meet Palatine, a game where form will go out the window.
Most disappointed team must be Kildavin, beaten semi finalists last year who got their campaign off to a horrendous start which left them with too much to do.
Kilbride must wonder what they have to do to take the next step. They pushed everyone in the group and just a lack of balance in their starting fifteen is denying them making that move.
Tullow had another poor campaign and heavy defeats cannot be good for morale or future progress.
Dual clubs Rangers and Naomh Eoin struggled this year with Intermediate Champions Naomh Eoin failing to reproduce the form and hunger they showed in Leinster last year, while Fenagh slipped considerably during the year and found themselves bottom of the table.
Palatine and Eire Og, Tinryland and O Hanrahans meet in the Quarter Finals and I'm making no predictions!
Old Leighlin and Rathvilly await the winners.
