Donal Mullins Honoured for Contribution to Carlow GAA

Carlow GAA Referees honoured one of their greatest servants last Friday night in Palatine Clubhouse. Carlow GAA Referees recognised Donal’s long service to Carlow GAA as an umpire with the reception.

Donal began umpiring in 1973 and went on to man the posts at some 2,554 games. Donal umpired for over seventy different referees in both hurling and football. Donal worked with four different referees at intercounty level; Sean Kelly (Rathvilly), Pat Ahern, Eddie Whelan (Killeshin) and Pat Moran (Graiguecullen). Donal umpired in Croke Park over fifteen times.

Donal was known for incredible concentration and his ability to judge a high ball over the post when facing into the sun. Donal recently retired from umpiring but is still an eager match goer .
